What To Do If You’ve Taken Too Much

Hopefully before you start using cannabis, you have done your research and followed our “start low and go slow” advice.  But, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel you have taken too much, and you feel uncomfortable, anxious or paranoid, here are some tips to help you back to a safe space.

Remember that no one has ever “overdosed” on cannabis, so you are simply trying to feel more comfortable while you wait for the effects of the cannabis to wear off.

  1. Don’t panic: as we noted, no one has died from an overdose of cannabis, and you will not be the first.  Just try to relax and remind yourself that you are okay, and you simply need to wait a while for the effects to subside. Depending on how much you have had, it can take up to 24 hours, but more likely it will just be a few hours.

  1. Distract yourself: try engaging in an activity to take your mind off, well, off your mind.  Watch a movie, listen to some music, eat something, play a video game, go for a walk, take a bath or shower, or talk to a friend.  Do something enjoyable, and focus on the activity at hand.

  1. Water and Snack:  try drinking some water and having a light snack, such as nuts, cheese, or fruit.  This can help ground you and take your mind off how you are feeling.

  1. Try Black Pepper: if you are feeling paranoid or anxious, try smelling black pepper, or even chewing on a peppercorn.  This is a little known secret that is said to help quell paranoia.

  1. Use CBD: CBD has been known to fight the effects of paranoia, and may be helpful in restoring your balance when you have had too much THC. Be sure to use a fast acting CBD such as a tincture.

  1. Go to sleep.  If you really aren’t feeling well, lay down in a quiet, safe place, and try to go to sleep.  You will be able to ride out the uncomfortable feelings, and wake up feeling yourself.  If you still don’t feel great after you wake, try one of the above!
